‚ÄčAt some point in our lives almost everyone will suffer from joint pain. In a recent national survey 1 out of 3 adults reported having joint pain within the last 30 days; so its definitely a common and ongoing issue. There can be multiple causes of joint pain ranging from an injury, to arthritis to gout to inflammation. Joint pain can range from slightly irritating to extremely debilitating and while sometimes it can go away after a few days or weeks its important to look after yourself and keep on top of it; particularly if you have suffered a recent injury or the pain is severe. Prevention can really help keep pain levels to a minimum.

Joint pain is commonly due to either an injury or arthritis. While there is no magic supplement or pill to take to cure it there are a number of steps you can take to try and manage joint pain. Its important for everyone to look after their joint health and take preventative measures to manage it, even from a younger age, as it is something you will really thank yourself for down the line! So what can you do to help yourself?

Your diet can play a big part in managing joint pain and is a simple first step to take. Inflammation in the body can cause joint swelling and pain so any steps you can take to avoid that will be really beneficial. If its possible its really important to eat lots of anti-inflammatory foods such as avocado, walnuts, flaxseed and turmeric. These foods are highly nutritious and full of healthy fats and micronutrients which give the body what it needs.

On the other side of the coin there are some foods which should be avoided as much as possible. Highly processed foods, fried foods and foods that are high in sugar can really increase inflammation in the body, which is not something you want when you are suffering from joint problems as this can increase pain in and around the joint. Deep fried foods in particular are full of trans fats which are linked to high levels of inflammatory markers in the body. High sugar diets really contribute to inflammation in the body as well and should be avoided as much as possible. While we know these foods may taste good often they leave you feeling bad afterwards and may cause inflammation long after you have eaten them.
