Simple Simon’s Healthfood Restaurant Donegal Town
Simple Simon’s Healthfood Restaurant
Simple Simon’s was first established as a health food shop over 25 years ago, long before health shops were as popular as they are today. It changed hands a couple of times over the years but in 2010 it found its forever home with Finbar and his team. We opened on the 14th of August in 2010 and we have gone from strength to strength since. When we first opened the doors there was a quaint small health food shop. We have since expanded twice and added a deli/cafe to our business.
We are known for our fab selection of quiches and pies. All of our pastry is handmade in our kitchen by our talented chefs. Our selection can change daily but check out our menu for our staple items. All of our salads are made in house as well, using fresh quality ingredients. We aim to provide delicious food in a cosy and informal setting. While we are not a gluten free cafe we do provide some gluten free options for our coeliac customers. Our most popular hot dish is our gluten free chicken parmigiana, but we also have gluten free soups and salads on daily. We have noticed a real surge, particularly in the last couple of years towards a plant based diet which is fantastic so we try to cater for our vegan customers as well. We always have a selection of vegan salads but we also do a mean vegan shepherdless pie or grilled veggie pasty. Our vegetable soup is vegan and we have a nice falafel wrap but our most popular vegan dish is our falafel salad bowl, served with pitta bread and our delicious hummus. We don’t do sandwiches to order but we do have a great range of signature sandwiches which are made in our kitchen every morning. Our scones are homemade and easily one of our best sellers.
Our coffee is Red River coffee, with our house blend being a colombian roast. We also have a coffee of the month if you’d like to try something different!
We have an incredible French baker Franck Pasquier who is the owner of Donegal Craft Bakery who makes delicous and authentic French breads for us. He also makes our pastries; and if you’ve never had a real French croissant then now is the time to remedy that. Franck also makes some of our classic desserts including our pear and almond tarts.
We also have a sweet treat baker Julie who owns and operates The Bakery Shack in nearby Rossnowlagh. Julie is one of the hardest workers we know and you can taste the difference in her desserts. Her cherry pie is a huge favourite with both us and the customers but she makes everything from brownies to bakewells. She also makes most of our gluten free and vegan desserts which include gluten free peanut blondies and vegan coffee and walnut cakes.
Check out our menu for a more in depth look at what we offer and keep an eye on our facebook page for specials and daily delights!
